The APPS FOR OFFICE MS Word addins won't be slowing your computer done too much - about once a month they will do a License check over the internet, but apart from that the only issues are around the size of templates - for example a 50MB template will run slowly with or without software,
The other reason that Word might be running slowly is if you have experienced Word crashes. When Word crashes it leaves temp files behind associated with the document that crashed, the template it was based on, and any addins that were loaded.
These temp files exist when Word is open, but when Word shuts down it removes them. When Word crashes, it doesn't removes them and it can be confused if they already exist when it starts up.
How to remove them:
Exit all applications.
Windows, will look like it does when you first boot up. You should have no little application icons at the bottom of your screen.
Run the two searches described below, and delete the files returned.
FIRST SEARCH
Windows XP: click on Start > Search > All Files and Folders > Local Hard Drive C - in the all or part of the file name field type: *.tmp
Windows7 &: Open a Windows Explorer window and click on the C drive. In the search box in the top right hand corner of the window, type: *.tmp
SECOND SEARCH
Windows XP: click on Start > Search > All Files and
Folders > Local Hard Drive C - in the all or part of the file name
field type: ~*.*
Windows7 &: Open a Windows Explorer window
and click on the C drive. In the search box in the top right hand
corner of the window, type: ~*.*
DELETE FILES
Delete any files that are returned. A few files will not delete - these are files that are in use by background processes. But most files can be. Some times you will need to delete in groups rather than all at once.
